I purchased these for my brother because i had given him a home entertainment center for his bedroom and all of the speakers didn't work and the sound quality was ok. The brandname was Insignia and the total watts were 1000 watts. These speakers outperformed and at peak power they are 400 watts. I hooked them up to his laptop and they never made it to the bedroom. He is constantly at his laptop dancing and having a good time. I purchased some for myself prior to buying these and it was cheaper on Amazon. I paid 90.00 versus the 150.00 from Circuit City and mine are hooked up to my tv and boy do they rock.
