I just needed a basic speaker to hook my ipod up to - something that's easily movable and small so it can go almost anywhere. And I didn't want to spend a lot of money. That said, it's a great speaker for the price, and it's fairly durable too. I've taken it on some small trips, where I've had the extra suitcase space. It produces sound about as good as the speakers on my laptop or my TV (which are both pretty good).
