I have been searching for RECHARGEABLE wireless speakers for a while. These speakers don't seem to have quite the space in the sound my old 301s had, but they still provide a very realistic sound. They seem to be a little heavy on the bass response for me, I would like a little more emphasis on the treble as I listen to classical music. They are still very good speakers, though, and the instruments are all clearly and individually defined. Make sure you get them up off he floor, though. The specifications (300 watt, front-firing) speak for themselves, but I am also pleased with the extra long cable included for connecting to my receiver. The design (not square) is pleasing to look at, and the led on the top of the unit to indicate operation is much better than my previous subwoofer that had the same feature, but it was on the back of the unit where you couldn't see it. One of the speakers was cracked when they arrived. There is no foam padding in the box they come in, which is idiotic. You wouldn't have to drop the box far for these heavy little speakers to crack their cheap plastic casing.

I am using these as front surround sound speakers. 4 inches is the minimum size for a speaker to sound halfway decent, and anything bigger is too big to put on a surround sound speaker stand. It's surprising that there isn't a bigger variety of 4 inch speakers to choose from.

First - Shipping was excellent. Customer Service - It was excellent (called during US work hours). Sub is huge but glossy and beautiful, so no need to hide. Speakers itself are smaller than I expected. I have done considerable research before buying and was not disappointed. Initally, I did not use ezsetup through my HK receiver, but after setup of speakers properly and adjusting bass etc, they sound great. Wires are enough and lengthy. Had to just go to lowes and spend abou $3 for screws which did no come with wall brackets. This speaker system, to me, illustrates the difference between a product that is designed, and a product that is engineered. Yamaha really has come up with some neat technology to get the most out of a small package. These tiny speakers get louder and sound better than any USB-powered system has any right to. The "swing radiator" is no gimmick and does provide a more robust sound than expected. The amplifier trickery works, too, with one exception, which I'll cover below.

Build quality is high, with the unit feeling nice and sturdy. As others have mentioned, it does seem like a poor choice to have put the USB terminal inside the battery compartment, requiring the battery tray to be removed in order to plug in the USB cable. I think Yamaha decided most people would usually use the unit one way or the other. Still, I give this unit 5 stars because despite this one flaw, it's the best portable speaker solution on the market that I've found.

As to the amplifier power issue mentioned else where. I did experience a problem with the amplifier when I had the speaker powered by a Belkin portable surge protector (BZ103050vTVL) that has USB power ports built in. It seems these power ports could not provide adequate current to keep the speaker going at high volume. However, I've not been able to reproduce this issue when using the supplied USB AC adapter or when powering the speaker with my laptop computer. Just received the speaker tonight and tested it with music--the bass and clarity overall were fantastic--honestly blew me away because it was a much higher quality than I had hoped to get from such a compact system. The old set of speakers I had took up a lot of space and were a pain to set up. This speaker is small, compact and, quite frankly, sounds MUCH better than the pair of speakers I have used the past year. I strongly recommend this speaker--both for presentation volume requirements and for personal entertainment where musical fidelity considerations are important. Bose Lifestyle V20 Home Theater System - Black Best Quality

OK, so all I wanted was a great surround system that would accept an optical cable to throw out surround, and did NOT want to have a large receiver sitting under my TV for just that only purpose. The Display being separated from the Media Unit is awesome. I have an Xbox 360, Comcast Tivo (yes, Tivo from Camcast), and an Apple Mac Mini hooked up to a 52" Samsung LCD (1080p) TV, and just wanted surround sound. I was not evening looking for a remote...no remote shipped with any system actually works, right? I was still looking for a 1 remote control solution. (more on the remote later)

Forget the fact that I paid $1700 for this...I know would still pay the $2,000 for it. I know Bose can be pricey.... If you are looking at this, you're considering it too. I would do it again, even without the sale price.

It sounds damn good. It blows away any of those all in one's you see out there for $1,000 or less. I'm sure that at some price point, an all in one will sound better, but I'm sure it will cost a pretty penny. There is even good bass. Can I get more rumble with at 'proper' 8" or 10" subwoofer? Yes, if I want to, but LIstening to Rush, Moving Pictures sounds PERFECT! (had to up the Bass to a +8 to make this sound like that).

Surround is good, bass is good, TV pass thru (for video) is good...even the remote is more than I expected.

REMOTE
Now, I was ready to go buy a true universal remote (Logitech, or old Harmony remotes), but was going to try the Bose remote first.

Waited until I had a few hours, because I had to re-run my HDMI cables. Took the Xbox360 and Comcast Tivo, removed them from the TV, and hooked them up tot he HDMI in on the Bose. Bose is now connected to the TV over HDMI. Played with the remote settings, and was surprised as anything when it worked EXACTLY like I wanted it to. Thought I would have to run the IR Emitters....nope. PLEASE...take your time with the remote settings. There are a LOT OF CODES for your to search through. Don't stop at the first one just because the power on/off feature worked. Write down what worked, and keep moving down the list. Took me 7 working TV codes to find the one where the menu button actually brought up a working menu. Took me 3 tries to find the right Comcast Tivo code. I figure this is why people have problems with the remote's universal feature (that they stop on the 1st working code). The remote is Radio Frequeny for the Bose controls, and will do IR for the other components without requiring the IR Transmitters.
