I'm a speaker lover, and not a Bose-hater. Bose makes some incredible speakers: like the 901, some of the best I've ever heard. The Bose Acoustimass series are not very good, frankly, but obviously fine for most people. Missing a significant portion of the midrange is OK, apparently, if they look cool enough. The bass is one-dimensional. If it weren't for an advertising budget, I'm certain no one would own an Acoustimass, since they will lose any head-to-head challenge at almost any price. My sister-in-law gave me her system since she knows I like speakers. I very quickly gave this system to my son for college, since it won't matter if it gets stolen. First of All let me say i received these speakers very fast and in great packaging. Upon opening the factory sealed box the speakers were packed laterally standing on there sides rather than flat. FIRST thing I did when examining the speakers was to loosen the wall retaining clips( PLEASE DO THIS FIRST, IF YOU DONT THEY WILL BREAK ON INSTALLATION). installation into the walls were as easy as i thought possible. I did stuff the walls with polyfill before the final securing of the speaker.

Sound= these things sound great! Frequency response is very wide ( from 20khz-down to about 65hz). Midbass is strong, highs are vibrant and audible without harshness. Crossover is huge, oversized, and built with quality( I have the high Fq set at a -2 and sound is well balanced.

Look= Speakers profile is not low at all, I would say its mid-profile. Since the grill has some 3-dimensional curves to it, I think it gives it a nice look and it compliments its surrounding. Once painted and fully finished these speakers look great.

Subwoofer? It really depends on your music taste. Speaking for my self, I think these speakers are good enough to give you the option to add a subwoofer or Not! They played extremely well on all music genres except Rap music.

With that said from my consumer point of view. Well worth the cost and the gamble on yamaha, a lesser known high-quality in wall speaker maker.

The Sound in this speaker is phenominal but it is a large center speaker. I had to search for a TV stand to fit it so [...]made by wood Tech (CMV-66 is a wonderful real wood entertainment center that actually fit my TV, speakers, video game systems, DVR, this center speaker and my Receiver). This Center I would highly recommend but if I could buy my speakers all over again I would buy this line of speakers but in an entire set with floor stands, rears, and the center and then added a sub and rears for a 7.1 set up. This series of speakers have been discontinued but are as good of quality and the new lines but cheaper. This speaker line also looks very sleek. I bought 4 of these plus the TC 65 for a center channel. They are awesome speakers with great range. I have 2 little kids so power was not something I was looking for. I wanted clarity so I could still hear dialog at low volumes when we watch movies at night after the kids go to bed. These speakers are perfect for that, easy to install, and a great value. I called Polk to give me some guidance on what speakers I should purchase and how to pair them and this is what they advised.

Saved a couple hundred dollars via Amazon or their merchants compared to slightly less quality Sony speakers from the firm that installed the pre-wire in our home.
Be aware that Polk only honors the warranty for speakers purchased from an authorized dealer. Yamaha NS-AW190BL 2-Way Indoor/Outdoor Speakers (Pair, Black) Immediately

These speakers are ok, not great. They don't have good bass response and sound a little "tinny" if that's a technical term. They just don't wow you. The mounting kit was great. We'll see how they last in the Colorado weather.

Marantz NR1501 Slim Line Home Theater Receiver Decide Now

I just upgraded my home theater system from a five year old HTIB. I picked up Orb Audio speakers (excellent little speakers, great price) and also the Marantz NR-1501.

I tried out three receivers before settling on the NR-1501. I first looked at the Denon 1910. It definitely sounded great, but was too tall for the space in my entertainment center.

I ended buying a Yamaha RX-V465 BL. I was disappointed with the clarity of the vocals during movies and TV, and even with adjustment the sound was very harsh and very directional. I took this back to best buy.

I listened to an Onkyo TX-SR507. This had decent sound quality, balanced, but not as smooth as the Denon. It also fit in my entertainment center, and the price was decent.

Finally I ended up checking out the NR1501. I thought it wouldn't sound particularly great due to the lower power (50W per channel), but apparently Marantz greatly underrates their equipment and cuts off the rating before any distortion occurs.

Whatever the reason, in any event, this receiver had the smoothest, cleanest and clearest sounding tone of all of them. I tried it side by side, with the same speakers in the store VS. the Denon and the Onkyo (forget the Yamaha, it sounded like garbage compared to all three) and was continually amazed by how rich and clear everything sounded.

I went with the Marantz--at 599.00 (current Amazon price) you can't even come close to this quality of sound. The volume can be so low that my wife can sleep with the door open, and you can still clearly discern the voices of people on TV when using the amp. Everything balances great. Dark Side of the Moon and OK Computer sparkled with this setup (my two main reference CD's for sound).

To sum that up, get it. Unless you're dropping 1500 for a receiving I don't think you can beat the quality of this. As long as you have smaller speakers and reasonable sized room, this is the deal.Get more detail about Marantz NR1501 Slim Line Home Theater Receiver.
