BIC America FH6-LCR Dual 6.5-Inch 175-Watt LCR Speaker with Mid/High Frequency Horn Buy Now

Just installed 2 Yamaha in-wall 960 speakers and realized that my outdated Infinity center channel was no longer a good match. The Yamahas have dual 6.5s so I needed to step up from the 4-inch drivers on the Infinity and started searching. I found that most LCRs in the sub-$300 range had anything from 3.5-inch to 5.25-inch woofers; I had recently added a BIC sub to my system so I checked their website and saw the FH6 that sports dual 6.5s as well as the horn tweeter, which would be a nice match with my Yammys. Unfortunately, I didn't want to spend the $329 price tag so I checked Amazon and found a listing for $107. Are you kidding me?!? Took me all of 2 seconds to order one.

If you are looking for some sleek, updated look and an elaborate company logo, do not purchase this speaker. BUT if you are wanting to get a huge bang for your buck with a powerful center channel, I don't think you can do any better than the FH6. It can handle a range down to 40Hz (most other centers I saw were in the 50-65 range), sports 175 watts, and the performance of the horn tweeter vs. the dome is evident on the dialogue signals of 5.1 dvds. It's not a bass reflex design but rather a suspension (meaning there are no ports on the enclosure) so that gives you nice flexibility when positioning the speaker - you can hang it if you want and not worry about compromising any rear ports. Just to break this speaker in, I set my receiver to all-channel stereo and let me tell you, this speaker is very capable of serving as a left or right channel as well. Played some live Allman Brothers and some live Dave Matthews and it produced a nice crisp, warm stage which I'm sure will only get better as they loosen up; the highs are clean but not overly bright, and the woofers play low enough bass frequencies to blend in very nicely with the sub without having to set the crossover too high. The FH6 is virtually the same speaker as BIC's top-of-the-line Acoustec Series minus the lacquer finish.

Great buy, whether you get one for a center or three for a matched front line on your home theater. BIC doesn't advertise or have a catchy slogan, but they do build very solid and powerful speakers that will not break your wallet...Get more detail about BIC America FH6-LCR Dual 6.5-Inch 175-Watt LCR Speaker with Mid/High Frequency Horn.

Polk Audio RTI A1 Bookshelf Speakers (Pair, Black) Decide Now

I researched bookshelf speakers for two months. I wanted a speaker that would fill the room with clean, rich sound for all types of music, especially jazz, classical, bluegrass, and rock. Everything sounds great on these speakers. I had Boston Acoustic floor speakers. I still love the the BAs, but I have not lost anything with the Polk and I have gained space. The speakers sit on top of a bookcase, about 6' off the ground, in a 14' x 14' room. I could not be happier. Get more detail about Polk Audio RTI A1 Bookshelf Speakers (Pair, Black).

Polk Audio PSW110 10-Inch Powered Subwoofer (Single, Cherry) Right now

Replaced a 15 year old Bose with the Polk Audio Speakers including this sub-woofer. Best way to discribe the sound is smooth. I'm hearing sounds in movies I did not know were there. These are being run by An Onkyo 806. This is in a room 18 X 15. More than enough speaker. Glad I didn't go one bigger.Get more detail about Polk Audio PSW110 10-Inch Powered Subwoofer (Single, Cherry).

Lowest Price Polk Audio TSi300 Floorstanding Speaker (Single, Black)

It had been a long time since I bought speakers. I am not really an audiophile but enjoy various types of music - classical, opera and 70s rock among other genre. I am very impressed. Sound seems faithful, and there's tons of volume for my 20 by 25 foot listening area [12 foot ceilings]. I have a separate sub-woofer. As always with amazon, shipping was fast and efficient. Price slightly lower than I found here in Albuquerque. Don't forget the listed price is for ONE speaker.

One caveat however. The speakers are quite narrow. I like that look. BUT they could be tippy. They are reasonably heavy, and a fall would not be good either for the speakers or for what they fell on [antiques, small children etc]. I'm going to look into finding a way to attach them to the wall to make them more stable.Get more detail about Polk Audio TSi300 Floorstanding Speaker (Single, Black).

Nice sound. Clear on the mid and high frequencies, but I would prefer more ability on the lower side of the range. Maybe this is just a personal preference.

Discount Yamaha NS-6490 3-Way Bookshelf Speakers, Black Finish ( Pair )

I have a pair of these Yamaha Speakers that I bought way back in 1996 at the late Good Guys Store. These speakers still sound like they are brand new. I use them to listen to my CDs, more recently we've been using them to listen to my wife's Ipod. I also use them as front speakers for the home entertainment system. They never failed me. They have been through some partying and they never broke, even when the music was playing so loud that the CD players skip.

These are good quality speakers made in the USA. I don't know at present time if they still make them here. I am very happy with the pair I got. I just wish I did not buy the extended warranty from the Good Guys. The warranty has long passed. Good Guys is no more, but my Yamaha speakers remain.Get more detail about Yamaha NS-6490 3-Way Bookshelf Speakers, Black Finish ( Pair ).

Cheap Polk Audio SurroundBar 50 Surround System (Single Speaker, Black)

I recently upgraded my home theater to 7.1 and went with a great in wall installation for the rear 4. Unfortunately, my wife liked the clutter reduction and "requested" that I ditch the huge tower LCR speakers as well... I investigated several soundbar solutions to add to my existing setup and finding unpowered LCR bars was not easy until I found the Polk SurroundBar 50.

I bought mine through the Amazon Warehouse and it arrived in a truly shredded box, but the contents were in perfect order. Hookup was simple, although the included wires are too long for my install and a little on the scrawny side, but they are well sheathed and color coded for easy install. The variety of mounting/stand solutions was very nice and allowed me to place the bar on the console under my 65" LCD without a hitch.

Setup and calibration was simple, but as others (including the vendor) have indicated they are a little bright and you MUST have subwoofer support if you want an accurate experience. Surround is as iffy as I would expect, no matter the mojo, but since I was looking for LCR it was perfect. I ended up wiring the SurroundBar's surrounds to give me a 9.1 setup and it does an admirable job.

Soundbars ARE a compromise - I doubt anyone's bar will give you the same surround experience as a discrete speaker system. If that is what you're hoping for, then get 5+ speakers and be done with it. However, if you're looking for a single speaker solution to give you a reasonable portrayal and you already have an amplifier then look no further. Buy AudioSource LS62W 6.5-Inch Two-Way Indoor/Outdoor Speakers (Pair) (White)

I bought these of all things for a small * indoor * music room. This is like a 9 X 12 room in the basement where 4 or 5 people can hang out for a music jam or karaokae. I needed speakers - more like mini-PA speakers that would fit in a small space and still have some oomph. These ended up working out just fine. To cut to the chase: they are used as vocal PA speakers. NOW, DISCLAIMER: I am using them with a mini professional audio mixer (Mackie 1202VLZ), an Alesis compressor/gate which I use to protect the speakers (peak limiting) and a really nice old skool Yamaha rack mounted professional power amp (140 watts per side). The sound is very clear for the money - yes I've heard Celestion, Bose, Quads REALLY nice stuff. My point is these have a real Linkwitz-Riley crossover and are comparitively dirt cheap. Yes they are a bit boomy but used OUTDOORS (like they were intended) that should be about right as bass tends to evaporate somewhat outdoors. I run a 18db octave filter at 75db to protect the speakers. Eventually I'll get an active crossover and make it so they handle nothing below 250 Hz. Forgetting all the technical crap, they include brackets (an extra with Carvin, and many other brands). The brackets are just stamped metal but they suffice. I guess the only thing I'd say is have a clear amplifier as when I hooked them up to a true outdoor receiver (which is cheap and the opposite of my Yamaha pro amp) they sounded muffled and crappy. Not the speakers fault really.

In closing - I was broke, they were cheap, it worked. P.S. if you're into genre like metal with pummeling 28" kick drum sub bass, don't kid yourself, don't look here - they're not intended for that. You'll just blow them. Beatles sound just fine on them (Day-tripp-er yeah..) at decently loud volumes.Get more detail about AudioSource LS62W 6.5-Inch Two-Way Indoor/Outdoor Speakers (Pair) (White).

For the working man... these beauties are a rare find. I love these speakers...with the sub woofer. The price, quality, reviews, listening experience grabbed me. Order Definitive Technology ProMonitor 1000 Bookshelf Speaker (Single, Black)

Pleasantly surprised! I needed to downsize from larger bookshelf speakers (Oldie but goodie JBLs). All around, these were a great choice.
I consider myself somewhat of an audiophile that no longer has a budget or space. I looked around on the internet at various small bookshelf models from Yamaha, Infinity, JBL, etc. I will say I took a leap of faith and bought these sound unheard...They sound great. Realistically, they are what they are. You're not going to get huge sound from them. I did notice that the are rated at a higher SPL (91) than most speakers and you can tell. The sound is quality though. Bass response isn't outstanding, but baritone to soprano vocals are full and clear.
Seeing as I'm a cheapskate, I didn't want to pay full price. I noticed that Amazon Warehouse had some at a reduced rate. The site stated that they were in "very good" condition with some "cosmetic blemishes." I used super saver shipping - they shipped within 4 days and they have no blemishes on them! They are very attractive speakers - the wife unit is very pleased.
If you're looking for a small bookshelf with good sound and great looks, I think these are it.Get more detail about Definitive Technology ProMonitor 1000 Bookshelf Speaker (Single, Black).
