I recently sold my house and included my Bose Acoustimass 10 speaker system with the media room. I researched for many days and even considered buying another Bose set. After looking at CNET reviews (Bose was not listed in the top 10), I decided to buy the Pro Cinema 800 set. But instead of the 8" subwoofer I bought the 10" subwoofer. I bought all the speakers seperately (no cost savings buying the package) including my 10" Definitive subwoofer. The satellites are a lot bigger than the Bose satellites and this helps them reproduce a fuller spectrum of sound. The sound coming from the Pro 800 are more rich and full. On the top is a passive radiator that works in tandem with the woofer to help radiate lower frequencies (these speakers are acoustically suspended). The stand on the bottom is removable and there is an included plug to cover the mounting hole if you are mounting them on wall mounts (each speaker weighs about 4 pounds). The back has binding post connectors with banana conntor receptacle (female). These speakers definitely out perform my old Bose Acoustimass 10 speaker set and cost about the same. For the money, you can't go wrong with this set.

Like the other reviewer I am not one to shower any product with accolades unless it is fully warranted. I can tell you that without hesitation the Definitive Technology Procinema 800 system is entirely worthy of such praise. Now I must qualify the fact that the space I was filling was around 12 x 28 feet with a 50" Panasonic plasma TV in one corner, but the end result was nothing short of mindblowing. The speakers work exceptionally well with my Denon 790 receiver and the Audessey setup certainly made it all easy to do. The sub has so much bass capability I really only had it dialed down to halfway (the adjustable volume on the side of the subwoofer is a great feature.....there's enough bass to knock pictures off the walls if you so desire). The satellite speakers are all set to crossover at 100 Hz and the sub picks up the slack from there. The marriage of the components is seamless, playing music is crisp and clear, but it's the sound from Blu-ray movies where this system really shines. You can hear everything (ex footsteps in the background, bullets zinging left to right, explosions become very dramatic, etc) as good or better than the movie theater. It really envelops you in the sound similar to systems that cost significantly more. The price of the system is a bit high, but when you price out your options at this level of sound quality, you'll see they are actually quite a value. About all I can say is wow. They arrived fast in two separate boxes each double boxed with lots of styro inside, so no worries on the shipping. Don't let the price fool you into thinking these are cheap speakers. Everything about them screams high-end (heavy, tight, brass fittings, nice grills). I was worried about the color but they're not as pale as they look in the picture. They sound fantastic and made a great 7.1 set up. I've been watching MartinLogan products for a while trying to learn everything before I buy each piece. Prior to looking at the Preface, I was watching the Vista and Vantage models. I decided the Preface would be best since they would be timbre matched with the rest of my speakers. I bought a pair of Preface to complete my 5.1 setup. I'm using the MartinLogan Fresco i as the center channel, and as the rear right and left speakers. I'm using a Focal Chorus sw800v as the sub. Everything is powered by a Denon AVR587. I must say the receiver is under powering the speakers, but that's not a problem because they all sound great. Beware, if your media is poor quality, these speakers will make it known. For example, I play Mp3's from a usb drive on my PS3. On 128kbps, the mp3 sound flat. The same song encoded at 192kbps sound amazing. Both mp3s were encoded from the same CD, using the same software on the same computer.

When I purchased the Preface, I was also comparing the Paradigm Millenia 200 and the Klipsch XF48. The negative of the Preface is that it has a larger footprint than the others, but the Preface has a deeper sound and a larger sound field. The Paradigm is a great speaker b/c the sound field was as large as the Preface, but you need to have a sub to make it sound full. The Klipsch wasn't as wide in sound imaging as the Preface, but sounded fuller than the Paradigm. Don't get me wrong, you will still want a sub for any setup, but the Preface do a great job on the lower frequencies.

I tested the Preface on a Denon AVR3310. They performed beautifully, and eventually I'll upgrade my receiver. For now, I'll wait on buying a new receiver since there's no point in having 2 receivers. Great product! Very easy to set up even in the manual mode. Especially easy using HDMI cables. I have replaced my eight year old surround sound system and the Sound Projector is actually better than hard wired speakers. The reviews of this product have been so negative I almost didn't purchase it. The sound on my two year old $800.00 Sharp Aquos TV went out and the repair cost was shocking - $400.00. I didn't repair it because I knew I could by a new HDTV for about that much money at Costco (with a two year warranty). A salesman at HH Gregg suggested I try this soundbar, since the audio outputs on the TV still worked. Long story short - it sounds great, better than the TV. It has quite a lot of sound (highs and lows) for its size. It's piano black finish matches the TV exactly and it looks great on the shelf below the TV that hangs on the wall. The blue lights are appealing but too bright, I will allow. Also, there is not too much sterio separation, but that's OK for a small 26" TV. The remote is quite small but it works. I really don't need the remote since I switched the TV audio to variable and I can use the TV remote to make it louder or to mute the audio. I bought this speaker to extend my music to the back porch. The Bluetooth paired with my Sony Bluetooth transmitter and the Yamaha speaker works great on the porch even with the sliding glass door closed. There are some problems with Bluetooth. 1. The speaker receiving the signal through Bluetooth will have a delay of about ten seconds. 2. Most Bluetooth transmitters will pair with eight receivers but the catch is it will only send to ONE AT A TIME. If I have the Bluetooth transmitting to the speakers in the bedroom the Yamaha speaker on the porch will not be sent the signal. These are the nicest looking speakers I've ever owned. But if you want a speaker with a fuller, rounder, bassier sound that isn't as nice looking, you'll get way better sound out of the Cerwin Vegas with the 15 inch woofers. I kept hoping that I'd break these in and things would improve, but unfortunately now I regret I didn't go with the tried and true. By the way I do have a 12 inch subwoofer to compliment these, but still not nearly as good. The Rocketfish has good sound over all and plays as loud as I need. The battery charging does take 24 hours or more to show fully charged even when charger is plugged in while the unit is in play. The green charge lite indicated a full charger before I began to play the speaker. So I am not sure how long the battery only play will last.
I had to play with the transmitter location to keep a good signal to the speaker. The speaker could not find the signal at the end of a CD and the start of another CD. I have a security screen door, refrigerator, window AC unit in the general line of sight to were I want to put the speaker. So keep this in mind when placing the speaker! In general I have been satisfied with the Rocketfish system (price value). If you want to setup stereo there are no instructions in the owners manual!
