I just needed a basic speaker to hook my ipod up to - something that's easily movable and small so it can go almost anywhere. And I didn't want to spend a lot of money. Our son-in-law got these speakers in his house. My wife was very impressed and wanted them for our living room. We installed the sub-woofer behind the sofa and the small cubes sit on the end tables behind the lamps. Unless you look for it, you really can't see the system.

I was so excited about this radio and loved it for the first 3 months. Then the problems started. I had to send the unit for repairs in Iowa 3 times. Apparently a man who owns a storage unit business repairs them in his back room. It was returned dirty each time and with something else not working. The Boston Accoustics rep in New Jersey are RUDE beyond compare. The last time it was returnd the alarm would not automatically shut off as it was supposed to and I would come home from work with it still playing. The "helpful" company representative instructed me to turn the alarm off to resolve the problem. Made me feel so happy I had spent over $100 dollars for such a dependable product. The "back up" feature that works in a power failure but doesn't require a battery failed me this morning and I was several hours late for work. All the wonderful feature sound great and I hope they work for you, but I will never buy another product from this company again. Only have had these mighty little speakers a day; but am mightily impressed.

Of course, I can't comment on long-term durability; but I can tell you that the sound is much better than I expected on a little pair of speakers like this -- though the reviews (on the black version and other sites) were just as happy. I mean, I'm just plain awed when I look at these little Mighty Mites.

Perfect? No, $2,000 speakers ain't gonna be perfect. Yep, there's some distortion if cranked up full blast; but show me comparable speakers that won't distort some. Slight rattle, if you listen hard and close for it. But, hey, these are tiny miracles, considering the quality sound they put out and sure as heck worth this price. Easy to set up, too.

One nitpick? The cord to the playing unit is kinda short and I've ordered an extension (easy & cheap fix). The speakers can't be placed far apart, about 2-1/2 feet.

Though there is no bass-tweaker, I find nothing too deeply missing. These don't have a sub-woofer; but that's part of the portability, right? I do enjoy a good bass, too; but I'm not the type to drive around in an Impala blasting neighbors with cannons from my trunk.

They aren't meant for 20-seat home-theaters or anything more elaborate, that's for sure. These are petite, portable speakers that put out sound you won't believe from anything so small and unpricy (is that a word?).

Understand what they are and what you'll use them for. I have them plugged into a little DVD player that I mostly use for CDs. Mireille Mathieu sounds delicious. She sounds crisp and pure to moi. That tells you my style of music-listening as well as the fact that I appreciate mighty good sounds. "Close Encounters of a Third Kind" sounds just fine, considering I'm not in a downtown movie palace.

In short, these are not for audiophiles who measure and analyze each note coming from their gold-plated monster-speakers. They are for casual but also sensitive listeners who need a little set of speakers with good sound. At the size, price and within their given parameters, I doubt you'll do better and most likely not nearly as good.

I'm looking at these speakers now on my shelf saying, "How do they do this for $350?" The moment you heft one of these out of the box, you know that there is that JBL quality in your hands. Absolutely perfect and flawless finish, robust, elegant well thought out and executed. Mine are in Cherry and they look beautiful. Ok, but these are speakers - what do they SOUND like?

I've been buying JBL speakers (and others too) since 1969. With JBL you rarely get cheated out of any spectrum. Bookshelf or full standing floor models, there will be a good balance of bass and midrange and treble, and this speaker is no exception. It sounds wonderfully balanced with no obvious exaggerations. Clear, clean and strong. I am using them with a 50W Onkyo receiver and there is no possible way I'd run out of power in my 22 x 16 room. I had a small subwoofer I was using with my previous bookshelf speakers. After installing these JBLs I unhooked it - not needed.

I am generally not a big fan of 3-way speakers which often have a disjointed or discombobulated kind of sound in the midrange. Not so here - this is as coherent and clear in the midrange as speakers I've owned costing many times the price of these. Vocal music sounds spectacularly good!

There are a LOT of small speakers out there and many of them cost upwards of $2500 a pair in audiophile circles. I can say with no hesitation this speaker will compete well sonically with any small bookshelf speaker at any price. Oh, speaking of bookshelves? Make sure yours is robust and strong - these speakers weigh a ton and a half.

JBL always shows them with the grills off, but they do come with nice black snap in grills which stand off about 1/2" from the face of the cabinet for a very nice appearance.

The binding posts on the back are strapped for bi-wire or bi-amping - a nice touch! I am not using that feature, but you never know. I bought my first JBL Lancers in 1969 for about $149 I think. That would translate into well over $1000 today, so these great sounding speakers at $350 have to be a real steal.

I got this Spongebob speaker system at KMart for $17.00. I didn't think the sound quality would be that great for that price, but it was all I could find for speakers. I was really surprised at how clear the sound is! It runs off 4 AA batteries, or there is an AC adapter. You can plug a cd player or an MP3 player into it. With a cd player you just separate the speakers and plug in the stereo audio cable, and with an ipod you can mount it on a shelf in between the speakers. Actually the directions say other mp3 players besides ipods will not fit on the shelf, but I have a Creative Zen Vision M and it fits perfectly! Setting up these speakers is as simple as pie because the compact size of the subwoofer and the rectangular size of the speakers. But when I heard them for the first time, it was like making love all over again! These speakers are amazing! The design is elegant, yet sexy, and the sound is clear and loud. The bass is so crisp and clear, that it shames the Z-2300. I used to own the logitech Z-2300 (for games-blown), still own the Z-5500 (living room ) , and the Harman soundsticks (computer) for movies and music. So I can only compare the Edifier to those 3 setups. The power and quality of this system is like a mix between the soundsticks and the z2300. IT has clear sound and a good boom. I would probably rate this unit higher but my BP6's sound so good that I have to compare the Center Channel 2000 to them. If I were to do without the BP6's and use only the 2000 I might think it sounded better. Polk Audio TSi300 Floorstanding Speaker (Single, Cherry) Review

It had been a long time since I bought speakers. I am not really an audiophile but enjoy various types of music - classical, opera and 70s rock among other genre. I am very impressed. Sound seems faithful, and there's tons of volume for my 20 by 25 foot listening area [12 foot ceilings]. I have a separate sub-woofer. As always with amazon, shipping was fast and efficient. Price slightly lower than I found here in Albuquerque. Don't forget the listed price is for ONE speaker.

One caveat however. The speakers are quite narrow. I like that look. BUT they could be tippy. They are reasonably heavy, and a fall would not be good either for the speakers or for what they fell on [antiques, small children etc].
