Klipsch RS-10 Surround Speaker Best Quality
Maybe it is my receiver, the calibration, or the room's acoustics, but I really expected better from Klipsch. The surround signals come through somewhat weak and are drowned out by the front speakers. The instructions will tell you to mount these 5-7 feet from the floor, behind/on either side of the listening area. I could barely hear them at that height. I ended up moving them down slightly above ear level while seated. Get more detail about Klipsch RS-10 Surround Speaker.

MartinLogan Preface Loudspeaker for Left, Right, and Surround Applications (Dark Cherry) Buy Now
I've been watching MartinLogan products for a while trying to learn everything before I buy each piece. Prior to looking at the Preface, I was watching the Vista and Vantage models. I decided the Preface would be best since they would be timbre matched with the rest of my speakers. I bought a pair of Preface to complete my 5.1 setup. I'm using the MartinLogan Fresco i as the center channel, and as the rear right and left speakers. I'm using a Focal Chorus sw800v as the sub. Everything is powered by a Denon AVR587. I must say the receiver is under powering the speakers, but that's not a problem because they all sound great. Beware, if your media is poor quality, these speakers will make it known. For example, I play Mp3's from a usb drive on my PS3. On 128kbps, the mp3 sound flat. The same song encoded at 192kbps sound amazing. Both mp3s were encoded from the same CD, using the same software on the same computer.
When I purchased the Preface, I was also comparing the Paradigm Millenia 200 and the Klipsch XF48. The negative of the Preface is that it has a larger footprint than the others, but the Preface has a deeper sound and a larger sound field. The Paradigm is a great speaker b/c the sound field was as large as the Preface, but you need to have a sub to make it sound full. The Klipsch wasn't as wide in sound imaging as the Preface, but sounded fuller than the Paradigm. Don't get me wrong, you will still want a sub for any setup, but the Preface do a great job on the lower frequencies.
I tested the Preface on a Denon AVR3310. They performed beautifully, and eventually I'll upgrade my receiver. For now, I'll wait on buying a new receiver since there's no point in having 2 receivers. Anyone want to buy a used Denon AVR587?Get more detail about MartinLogan Preface Loudspeaker for Left, Right, and Surround Applications (Dark Cherry).

Bose VCS-10 Center Channel - Speaker, home theater sound for component systems - Silver Order Now
I have owned the Bose VCS10 Center Channel for the past 3 years and have learned to live with it's sonic peculiarities and enjoy it's more positive aspects. I am one who finds the VCS10 actually better for listening to music than movie dialogue. I had 2 generations Bose 301's as front speakers (Series V) and surrounds (Series IV) respectively and was interested in maintain the "natural sound" characteristics for which Bose is well known. I must say that the VCS10 is lacking in lower range bass but not to a point of exceptional distraction. I do like the lack of piercing highs which the 2.5" drivers shy away from producing.
I also approve of the VCS10's styling and low profile on top on my CRT television set.
Strengths:
Low profile
Aesthetically pleasing
No piercing high notes
Does not draw undue attention to itself
Weaknesses:
Power Hungery Drivers
Often Muffled Dialog in Home Theater Mode
Hard to balance with rest of home theater speakers
Could use more bass!!!
Mid bass sounds "punchy" and at times and distorted when used for home theater music passages, eg. Titanic 1997 Irish Music by Galiec Storm in DTS 6.1 Get more detail about Bose VCS-10 Center Channel - Speaker, home theater sound for component systems - Silver.
Altec Lansing inMotion Portable Audio System for iPod (White) Decide Now
My wife, Naomi and I do a lot of traveling. With these speakers, which fold up like a sandwich, we can easily pack them with our clothes. The sound is pure Altec Lansing. The remote makes it simple to reset the alarm on our ipod from the comfort of our bed to get a "few more winks" in the morning. It's also nice to know that we don't have to depend on desk clerks to awaken us in such places as Beijing, Cairo, Mumbai, Warsaw, Prague, and other places where communication can be "hopey-wishey." We've been using them for a decade without any problems.

Lowest Price Klipsch Synergy C-2 Center Channel Speaker (Single, Black)
Great sound, clear. I could tell a huge difference from the moment I plugged it in. A little on the heavy side, but who cares, your purchasing for sound not wieght. Received it in 3 or 4 days after I ordered. You could definetly get better sound out of more expensive speakers, but for the money you can't beat it. Some of you will debate the last statement, but if your splitting hairs about a $100 or less then just get what you think you will like.Get more detail about Klipsch Synergy C-2 Center Channel Speaker (Single, Black).

Save Boston Acoustics SOUNDWAREW Soundware 4.5-Inch Indoor/Outdoor Coaxial Speaker (White)
It took me a while to find the right set of speakers that wuold drive a common area in the basemant that we just finished. As I spent a good amount of money in the home theater section of the basemant I wanted something more economical for this area. At a $100 list price and $80 purchase price these speakers are great. The mounting mechanism allowed me to put 2 in the corner of the room and the other 2 in the face of an area where I needed them. Once I made the right adjustments on the receiver (lowered the treble, increased the bass) the sound is really good for a set of speakers in this price range.Get more detail about Boston Acoustics SOUNDWAREW Soundware 4.5-Inch Indoor/Outdoor Coaxial Speaker (White).
Discount ButtKicker BK-LFE Low Frequency Effects System
I bought this and wireless receivers. I rate this 4 because it performs as advertised. As for value add, I leave mine unplugged most of the time - for me the novelty wears out pretty quickly. What I don't like: I have a delay about 0.5 seconds for music. I didn't understand what the wireless was for - it makes the connection between your A/V receiver and Buttkicker amp wireless - I thought it made the buttkicker shaker and buttkicker amp wireless. I sent mine back after talking with tech support. My reciever and amp are in the same cabinet, wireless is pointless for me. What I like: Nasty power on the buttkicker amp, I plug my subwoofer right into the 2100 watt river juice, diconnect the shaker to take the load off my receiver - priceless.Get more detail about ButtKicker BK-LFE Low Frequency Effects System.

Cheapest Yamaha YSP-900 Digital Sound Projector (Black)

As stated by others, this is not a "true" surround sound system. However, it works very well at expanding the sound stage, producing convincing effects which make you believe the sound is not coming from a single source. This is my second attempt at sound bar technology. The first was a Soundmatters Slimstage. Although the packing of the Slimstage was more desirable, their Euphony technology for me produced strange artifacts. Although I was able to get great sound from the Slimstage, I found myself constantly having to adjust it to achieve a desired effect. However, with some content, I could never quite dial it in. The purpose for my selection of sound bar technology was to enable full bodied sound within a living room environment, without intruding on the space with a half dozen ugly speakers. I desired a system which would remain virtually invisible, yet retain full this bodied sound. The YSP does this well. But, as many have also said, a subwoofer is really required to get full impact. Now, off to find the invisible subwoofer.Get more detail about Yamaha YSP-900 Digital Sound Projector (Black).
Cheap Pyle PADH215 2000W Heavy Duty Speaker MDF Construction with Reinforced Corners
For the money, these are hard to beat. While the manufacturer suggests 1000 watts RMS, 2000 watts Peak, don't confuse this rating with a pro series JBL, EAW, etc., of similar rating. While this speaker is impressive, it's not to be confused with a $700 speaker cabinet.
Actually it's quite light weight. It can be lifted easily due to the lighter grade cabinet material, and modest internal components. Obviously the drivers don't equal those found in other brands, but Pyle it makes up for it in this particular model with quantity. In this case, more is merrier. Because they are generously rated high whether it's accurate or not, they do need to be driven hard in order to get a full sound and for the bass to become rich and thumping. I don't like volume maxed out all the time so I was able to make up for this deficiency through my outboard processing in my rack. An Aphex Aurial Exciter really makes things things come alive. An EQ alone won't do it. The mesh grill covering the cabinet is not the hardened steel you would hope for. One minor ding and the grill is dented for sure. You can push the grill in with two fingers. The material covering the enclosure is not heavy duty, but it does the job and looks very nice. It's not like an automotive carpet you'll find on Cerwin Vegas. More of a soft, fuzzy, but dense fabric material. But it is durable and will take plenty of hits. The 17" midrange horn, again, is not super heavy duty. The horn housing is much thinner plastic than you'll find on other brands. Meaning that if these fall over face first, the horn housing may very well crack. However the horn is somewhat protected by the cabinet design that protrudes just below and above the horn. One major draw back is the fact that you can't bypass the internal crossover if you wanted to bi, or tri-amp. I pair these towers up with an additional pair of Pyle PASW18" sub enclosures. The 18's are just a bit wider so the PADH215 sits nicely on top with a little room to spare. So for me, on each side of the stage I got an 18" sub, dual 15's, mid horn, & piezo highs. And I would love to be able to tri-amp this system without modification. So for right now I simply run everything in series parallel. But I have to be careful not to overdrive the amp. Even still, as is with my system, it flat out will rumble a very large banquet room or hall. I use it for DJ, & a live rock band as well.
One great thing about Pyle, should you need to repair the cabinet at anytime, they have all the individual components and parts at an affordable price. Unlike other manufacturers that stick it to you with replacement parts.
In conclusion, I definitely think for $500/600 for a pair of these things is indeed a good value. Far less than the price of a single cabinet of another major brand of similar configuration. Just remember, it needs to be processed to bring out the fullness. And if you do blow up a component, it won't cost you an arm and a leg for repair.
